Taniguchi Koi Farm
Kohaku, sanke, showa, golden corn
Japan Nigata
aniguchi San has been breeding koi at his own farm for several years now. He has already had success in the Wakagoi Show in 2009 with the 46bu Kokugyo (Overall Champion). Very promising, breeding mainly from Matsue, Sakai, Momotaro and Dainichi bloodlines. At this moment he is very well known for his new kind of koi, the golden corn.
Taniguchi specialized in Kohaku and Sanke and famous for golden corns but also has beautiful Showa Kujaku goshki In the south of Japan, about an hour's drive from Momotaro, is a relatively new koi farm called Taniguchi. Although new, but already fairly well-known. In its short existence, this farm has already built up a high reputation in the koi world. Taniguchi mainly specializes in Kohaku and Sanke, but Showa and Goshiki are also available here. As I have become accustomed (spoiled?) in the south of Japan, the quality is again very high here and the fish are relatively large in size. The warmer climate of the south of Japan, making the season longer and warmer, as well as the influences of Momotaro Koi Farm and Sakai Fish Farm (SFF) parent stock, have a favorable influence on the size of the fish bred by Taniguchi.
Koi breeder with a mountain of experience
Although Taniguchi is a relatively new player in the field and therefore a first-generation koi breeder, this man is bursting with experience. He worked for Oishi Koi Farm for years before starting his own business. The man already has many major awards to his name. This, while he himself is still young and can therefore still have a whole career ahead of him. The first year of his early existence as a grower he (logically) only sold Tosai. The Tosai were already very popular in the first year. That's great for a new venture, of course, but it resulted in very few Nisai being available in the second year.
Tanaguchi is one of the few growers where you can buy real jumbo tategoi Tosai and let it grow. Taniguchi now works on the farm with his brother and some employees. These extra hands are desperately needed because this grower is reinvesting all profits in the nursery and is expanding rapidly. He has already taken over two other farms. One he has bought, the other he rents from a former grower. You could write a book about the Oyagoi that Taniguchi uses. The man travels all over the country in search of suitable parent stock.
